The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) Central Region has launched a special awareness campaign against the unnecessary use of high-beam lights, aiming to enhance road safety and prevent accidents.
According to NHMP Central Region Spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmad, drivers are being briefed about the hazards of high beams and the proper use of vehicle lights across MC-I, Central and MC-II Zones, including M-2, Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, M-2 South, M-3, M-4 and M-5.
The awareness campaign is also being conducted on National Highway at Pattoki, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan, covering a wide area to ensure maximum reach.
The spokesperson highlighted that the glare from high-beam lights can temporarily impair the vision of oncoming drivers, making it difficult to see the road, turns or sudden obstacles in time, potentially leading to serious accidents.
‘Even a few seconds of unnecessary glare can affect a driver’s reaction time and create a serious safety risk,’ Syed Imran Ahmad said.
NHMP has urged motorists to switch off high beams when approaching oncoming traffic and use appropriate lighting to ensure safe travel.
Alongside the awareness campaign, appropriate action is also being taken against violations in accordance with the law.
The NHMP Central Region has appealed to motorists to drive responsibly at night and consider the safety of other road users.
The campaign is part of a broader effort to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents caused by improper use of vehicle lights.
