A parliamentary panel has directed the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) to align its constitution and rules with FIFA requirements, following concerns over the state of football governance in the country.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination, chaired by Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, reviewed the PFF’s efforts to revive the sport after years of inactivity and institutional uncertainty.

PFF President Mohsin Gilani briefed the committee on the federation’s recent achievements, performance, and future plans. He highlighted that the national football team had won a trophy at an international event for the first time, marking a significant milestone after a difficult period.

Committee members, however, expressed that this achievement did not reflect the overall state of football in the country and stressed the need for sustained efforts to reverse its decline.

The committee was informed that the PFF had remained inactive for a considerable period before its new leadership, including the president, was elected about a year ago in accordance with FIFA directions.

Committee members recommended that the PFF align its constitution and rules with FIFA requirements for better governance and development of football. Gilani acknowledged the need for rehabilitation of football infrastructure and the identification of talented players through a nationwide talent-hunt programme.

Members stressed that investment in grounds, academies, and basic infrastructure was vital, but also highlighted the need for the PFF to step up efforts to revive football.

Separately, the committee recommended a sports complex on WAPDA land in Haripur, but WAPDA raised flood concerns. A joint committee was formed to assess the site and submit a feasibility report within a month.
