Key Takeaways

  • 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine seized from a container at Karachi Port.
  • Afghan national and local facilitator arrested in the operation.
  • ANF intelligence led to joint operation with Sri Lankan authorities and DEA.

The Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, from a container at Karachi Port, according to reports. The seizure was made just two weeks before Tomorrowland DJ Axwell’s anticipated show in DHA Karachi.

The ANF arrested an Afghan national, identified as Ehsanullah, and a local facilitator. During questioning, Ehsanullah provided information about drugs that had been sent to Colombo.

The ANF shared the intelligence with Sri Lankan authorities and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), leading to a joint operation at Colombo Port. This operation resulted in the seizure of nearly half a tonne of crystal methamphetamine.

The ANF described the network as an Afghanistan-based international drug trafficking organization attempting to use Pakistani territory as a transit route for moving narcotics to international markets. Local handlers were also arrested in the Karachi operation.

On September 2, the US DEA and Sri Lanka’s Police Narcotics Bureau announced the recovery of about 463 kilograms of methamphetamine concealed in bath towels, valued at approximately $21 million. Several suspects, including Pakistani nationals, were arrested in the operation.

The ANF stated that the case highlights its intelligence capabilities and cooperation with international agencies in combating drug trafficking. Sri Lankan authorities and the US DEA formally appreciated the ANF’s cooperation and professional capabilities.

This operation comes two days after the joint operation at Colombo Port, which was part of a broader effort to disrupt the Pakistan-based drug trafficking network. The ANF’s actions underscore the ongoing collaboration between Pakistani and international law enforcement agencies in the fight against drug smuggling.
