KARACHI: A judicial commission has criticised Muhammad Ahmed Bhardey, the business partner of Mir Raza Ali, for attempting to mislead the commission during testimony in the Mir Raza murder case.
The one-member commission, headed by Justice Omar Sial of the Sindh High Court, grilled Bhardey for over two hours, expressing resentment over his actions.
Bhardey testified that he and Raza were old friends, having studied together at school and college, and had set up their business in 2020.
During the testimony, the commission asked Bhardey about the whereabouts of Raza on the night of July 28, 2024, when his smart watch, keys, and other items were found in his room.
Bhardey asserted that the partnership deed was registered in 2021 and he had obtained it from Raza in 2024 after the Sindh Board of Revenue issued a notice about non-registration.
The commission also inquired about the weekly payments of their eatery, Wafflix, and Bhardey claimed that he had asked Raza’s sister to transfer the payments to his account.
When asked about the use of his email and phone number to log into Raza’s iCloud, Bhardey replied that they were very good and old friends.
The commission further questioned Bhardey about his concern for financial matters shortly after Raza’s disappearance, to which Bhardey contended that he did not take it seriously as Raza had gone missing last year and returned home.
The business partner also testified that Raza’s sister had helped decode the smart watch and that they had searched Raza’s room to find any clues about his whereabouts.
