Pakistan is set to transform its policing system with the establishment of a new law enforcement investigation centre inspired by Chinese models. This move comes as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced plans for a pilot project in Islamabad, integrating detention, investigation, and summary trial facilities under one roof.

During a meeting with Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) who recently completed specialized training courses abroad, Naqvi highlighted the importance of international exposure. The officers described their experiences as invaluable, enhancing their professional capabilities and exposing them to modern policing practices and surveillance technologies.

Acknowledging the significance of these reforms, Naqvi stated that foreign training programs will become a permanent component of police officer development. He emphasized the government's commitment to equipping law enforcement agencies with advanced skills and technologies necessary for addressing emerging security challenges.

The new centre in Islamabad is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at making Pakistan’s law enforcement system more effective, responsive, and technology-driven. Naqvi stressed that adopting internationally proven policing models would significantly improve public safety by expanding monitoring capabilities and strengthening crime prevention efforts.

To further enhance surveillance and support law enforcement operations, state-of-the-art drones will be inducted into the Aviation Wing of the Ministry of Interior. Additionally, specialized investigation rooms are to be established at the National Police Academy, with a focus on modern interrogation techniques based on practices from developed countries.

The reform package also includes new police uniforms designed to better meet operational requirements, reflecting contemporary policing demands. The Commandant of the National Police Academy and other senior officials attended the meeting where ASPs shared their observations on advanced policing systems in China and Türkiye.

Naqvi highlighted the effective use of surveillance technologies, modern equipment, digital tools, and public security management practices that could be adapted to Pakistan’s framework. These initiatives are expected to streamline case processing and reduce procedural delays, ultimately benefiting the overall law enforcement system.
