Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb held meetings with senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials in Washington, D.C., reviewing Pakistan’s macroeconomic performance under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

During these meetings, which included discussions with First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, and other IMF representatives, Aurangzeb emphasized Pakistan's improved fiscal and external balances, achievement of revenue targets, stronger foreign exchange reserves, record remittances, and an improved current account position.

The finance minister also highlighted ongoing reforms in tax and energy sectors, privatisation efforts, tariff rationalisation, debt management, diversification of financing sources, and the country’s return to international capital markets. These discussions underscored Pakistan's commitment to fiscal discipline and policy credibility.

In addition to IMF meetings, Aurangzeb met with US Export-Import Bank President John Jovanovic, focusing on expanding economic and commercial cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. The finance minister discussed potential projects in agriculture and hydrocarbons, as well as modernising the country’s refinery sector through collaboration with Honeywell Technologies.

Aurangzeb expressed gratitude to the IMF for recognizing Pakistan's strong programme ownership and reform progress. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to long-term economic transformation and structural reforms during his interactions.

The finance minister’s visit also included discussions on measures to expand bilateral trade and investment, particularly in light of ongoing negotiations over a global tariff regime announced by US President Donald Trump under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

Aurangzeb concluded his meetings by thanking the IMF for their support and reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to continued economic reforms. The discussions laid the groundwork for potential future collaborations, including the development of a strategic framework with the US Export-Import Bank.
