Key Takeaways

  • Terror-related incidents in Sindh declined by 75 percent.
  • Major crimes, including murders and robberies, saw significant reductions.
  • Police operations led to the arrest of thousands of suspects.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has been informed that major crime rates in Sindh have significantly declined during the first half of 2026. According to a meeting held at CM House, the overall law and order situation across the province has improved due to enhanced inter-agency coordination and intelligence-based policing.

The provincial Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar briefed Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on the progress made in maintaining security through robust operations against criminals. The briefing highlighted a 75 percent decline in terror-related incidents, along with substantial reductions in major crimes such as murders (17.3 percent), robbery with murder (19.4 percent), and motorcycle theft (22.1 percent).

The Inspector General of Police, Javed Alam Odho, informed the chief minister that while most categories of crime showed a downward trend, mobile phone snatching had increased and required focused attention. Additionally, overall street crime in Karachi decreased by 11.77 percent compared to the same period last year.

During the first six months of 2026, Sindh Police conducted 2,184 encounters, an increase from 1,574 during the same period in 2025. The police also busted 1,087 criminal gangs and killed 187 criminals as part of their operations. These efforts led to the recovery of significant quantities of illegal weapons, particularly pistols and revolvers.

The anti-narcotics drive expanded significantly during this period, with 7,027 raids conducted against narcotics dealers. As a result, 7,468 cases were registered, and 9,096 accused individuals were arrested. The seizures included large quantities of heroin, charas, ice, and liquor.

The meeting also reviewed progress in combating extortion rackets operating in Karachi. While specific details on the number of operations or arrests related to this issue were not provided, it was noted that significant efforts were being made to address these networks.

Home Secretary Iqbal Memon informed the chief minister about close coordination among Sindh Police, Rangers, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, intelligence agencies, and district administrations. This collaboration is aimed at countering emerging security threats effectively.

The overall performance of modern surveillance systems, including the Safe City Project and Sindh Smart Surveillance System, was also reviewed. These systems are playing a crucial role in enhancing the security environment across the province.
