Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has entered into an agreement for a significant cabin modernisation programme on selected Boeing 777 aircraft, according to a report from Airline Suppliers.
The programme, supported by the Aerotec Group, will see the installation of full-flat Business Class seats and the refurbishment of existing Economy Class seating, among other upgrades.
The scope of the project also includes the introduction of new 60W In-Seat Power Supply (ISPS) and Passenger Service System (PSS) equipment, as well as new carpets and branding elements.
PIA CEO Muhammad Amir Hayat stated, 'The introduction of executive economy flat-bed seats will be an important enhancement to our long-haul product, offering passengers greater comfort and an improved opportunity to rest during their journey.'
Hayat further noted, 'This is a phased transformation, and as the project progresses, our passengers will experience tangible improvements in cabin comfort, functionality, and the overall onboard environment.'
Frank Kusserow, CEO of Aerotec Group, expressed, 'We are honored to support Pakistan International Airlines in this important cabin modernisation programme. PIA’s decision to invest in the comfort and quality of its long-haul passenger experience is a strong signal, and we are proud that the Aerotec Group can contribute its combined aftermarket and refurbishment capabilities to this project.'
Last year, the Pakistan government concluded the sale of a 75% stake in PIA for Rs135 billion, marking the end of years of efforts to privatise the airline. The Arif Habib consortium bought the managing stake, and in April this year, the remaining 25% shareholding was acquired, elevating private sector ownership to 100%.
The programme is part of PIA’s ongoing efforts to enhance its long-haul cabin product and improve the onboard experience for passengers, following the completion of the privatisation process and the transition to the new consortium-led Board and management.
Execution of the programme will be carried out in line with PIA’s fleet planning, maintenance schedule, and operational requirements to support an efficient implementation.
