  • Proposed format includes technical-level, trilateral discussions.
  • Previous peace efforts have not yielded significant progress.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed that the United States is planning to broker a new round of talks with Russia and Ukraine by the end of October. The talks are aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, which has lasted for four and a half years.

In a statement to reporters on Sunday, Zelensky stated, 'The American side is currently in contact with Ukraine and Russia and is proposing to somehow hold a meeting at the technical level in a trilateral format by the end of October.'

While the exact location of the talks has not been specified, Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine is open to hosting the discussions in the United Arab Emirates or another country proposed by the US. Previous US-mediated talks have been held in the UAE.

The Ukrainian president added, 'I confirmed to them that our side is ready to support this timeline.'

The United States has been actively involved in peace efforts, though these have been largely stalled. Washington’s attention has been diverted to its ongoing conflict with Iran, and Russia has reportedly increased its aerial attacks across Ukraine.

The Kremlin has not ruled out the possibility of such talks, with Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, stating, 'We do not rule out such a possibility; we are talking about the foreseeable future.'

Previous rounds of talks have failed to yield significant progress, with Moscow maintaining maximalist conditions to end the fighting. The Ukrainian government has expressed its willingness to engage in the talks, hoping for a resolution to the conflict.

Despite the optimism surrounding the proposed talks, analysts remain cautious, noting that the success of such negotiations depends on the willingness of all parties to compromise and adhere to the terms of any agreement reached.
