Police in Karachi have arrested a man over an alleged sexual assault of a foreign woman residing in DHA. South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza confirmed to Dawn that the suspect has been apprehended, following a complaint filed by the victim on July 17.
The victim, identified as a 49-year-old medical assistant from cardiology in the United States, arrived in Pakistan on November 13, 2025. She was living in Phase VI of DHA at the time of the alleged incident.
According to the FIR registered by Darakhshan police, the woman was allegedly raped around 4am on July 17 after agreeing to have a drink with her assailant. Upon waking up, she found herself being assaulted and immediately resisted, screaming for help while striking the suspect, who fled the apartment on a motorcycle.
A woman and two daughters came to assist the victim, providing her with clothing before helping her return to the apartment. The victim further alleged that the suspect later returned without knocking to retrieve his phone, leading to another confrontation where she again chased him but failed to catch up.
In the FIR, the victim recounted collapsing on the street in distress and trauma after failing to apprehend the suspect a second time. She was subsequently taken to the police station by someone who had heard her cries for help.
Dr Summaiya Syed, a Police Surgeon, told Dawn that the woman’s samples have been collected for serology and DNA testing as part of the investigation. The FIR was registered under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Further details of the case are currently being investigated by police. DIG Raza stated that further actions will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.
