The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has decided to launch a nationwide movement from August 5 for the release of its chief, Imran Khan, and to address other demands. The decision was made at a meeting held on July 16th, chaired by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, interim chairman of the PTI.

During the meeting, which took place at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, lawmakers discussed matters related to parliamentary affairs and finalized plans for public meetings, demonstrations, and a long march. The movement will be launched on August 5, marking the completion of Imran Khan’s three-year imprisonment.

PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja stated that Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas would provide their opinions to finalize protest plans and other activities. He also mentioned that rallies will be held across Pakistan to commemorate this significant date for the party leader.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, at a press conference, emphasized that August 5 would mark three years of Imran Khan’s imprisonment and highlighted the importance of holding rallies throughout the country. He stressed that the movement aims to bring an end to what he perceives as injustice towards Imran Khan and the broader issue of oppression in Pakistan.

In another development, PTI rejected media reports claiming they had decided to end their boycott of parliamentary standing committees. Chief Whip Malik Amir stated that the party’s decision to boycott these committees remains unchanged and that any future decisions will be made after consultation with the founding chairman, Imran Khan.

Advocate Awais Younas Chaudhry submitted a list of six leaders to the Adiala jail administration for a meeting with Imran Khan on August 5. The names included Haji Amanullah Awan, Muhammad Shahid Ali Chahan, Syed Hamid Ihsan, Sajjad Ali Butt, Noman Mughal, and Aqsa Hayyat Lali.

The movement is expected to include various forms of public engagement, including rallies, demonstrations, and a long march. The PTI leadership has emphasized the importance of these activities in bringing attention to Imran Khan’s case and addressing broader issues of justice and oppression in Pakistan.

It was also decided that Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas's opinions will be sought for finalising the protest plans and other activities.
