World Cup trophy to arrive in bespoke Louis Vuitton trunk

World Cup trophy to arrive in bespoke Louis Vuitton trunk

Key Takeaways

  • The World Cup trophy will be transported in a specially designed Louis Vuitton trunk.
  • The trunk features a golden 'V' for 'Victory' and the brand's monogram pattern.
  • This is the fifth time Louis Vuitton has designed a trunk for the World Cup trophy.

The World Cup trophy, one of the most prestigious prizes in soccer, will be transported to its next destination in style within a bespoke Louis Vuitton trunk. The French luxury fashion house has once again been entrusted with designing the carry case for this coveted prize.

The trunk is adorned with a golden 'V' for 'Victory', alongside the brand's recognisable monogram pattern and gold-plated brass corner protectors, making it both functional and visually striking. Inside, the interior is lined with beige leather and features a patch commemorating the partnership between Louis Vuitton and FIFA.

Pietro Beccari, CEO and Chairman of Louis Vuitton, expressed the company's commitment to excellence in their statement: 'For over a decade, Louis Vuitton and FIFA have shared an unwavering commitment to excellence, bound by a shared belief in sport’s power to inspire and bring people together.'

This is not the first time Louis Vuitton has designed a trunk for the World Cup trophy. The company has been responsible for the carry case since 2010, with subsequent designs used at the 2014, 2018, and 2022 tournaments.

The World Cup trophy typically resides in the FIFA Museum in Zurich between tournaments but will now travel to its next destination in a trunk that reflects both the brand's heritage and the spirit of the game. The partnership between Louis Vuitton and FIFA has been ongoing for over a decade, highlighting their shared dedication to excellence.

Luxury brands have long staked out their territory in professional sport, with Tiffany & Co. crafting the Vince Lombardi Trophy awarded to Super Bowl champions since 1967. Similarly, Louis Vuitton also crafts bespoke luxury trophy trunks for major Grand Prix circuits under a 10-year deal with Formula 1.

However, there is only one trophy for the quadrennial global showpiece, making the chance to design its bespoke luggage particularly honourable. The World Cup trophy's journey will now be as glamorous and sophisticated as the game itself.
