Provincial representatives attending the 9th Wheat Board meeting, presided over by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, stated that adequate wheat stocks are available across Pakistan. The meeting reviewed the country’s wheat production, availability, procurement, and market prices.
The minister highlighted an encouraging development: this year's wheat production is estimated to be 1.36 million metric tonnes higher than last year’s production. This increase in output has been unanimously agreed upon by all provincial representatives present at the meeting.
Speaking during the meeting, a senior official from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research informed that the meeting was attended by key officials including the Secretary of MNF&R, Chief Secretaries of Punjab and Sindh, Agriculture and Food Secretaries from all provinces, as well as representatives from the Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) and other relevant stakeholders.
The provincial representatives unanimously reported that there is no shortage of wheat in any part of the country. They assured that adequate stocks are available to meet current demands. The meeting concluded with a consensus that the estimated wheat production target has been achieved, ensuring sufficient reserves for the nation.
This positive outlook on wheat availability comes at a crucial time when food security remains a significant concern for many countries. Pakistan’s successful harvest and stock management reflect the government's commitment to addressing food security issues through strategic planning and coordination among various stakeholders.
The meeting also discussed market prices, which were found to be stable due to the ample supply of wheat. This stability is expected to benefit both consumers and producers in the coming months.
