Key Takeaways

  • PPP candidate Mohammad Naseem secured his seat after re-polling in Diamer-III.
  • IPP candidate Mohammad Dilpazeer won the re-poll in Diamer-I.
  • Re-polling was held at nine polling stations on July 12, 2026.

PPP candidate Mohammad Naseem and Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) candidate Mohammad Dilpazeer retained their seats in Gilgit-Baltistan after re-polling was conducted at nine polling stations on July 12, 2026. The re-polling process took place without any significant incidents, with police and law enforcement personnel ensuring security.

According to unofficial results, Naseem secured 10,714 votes in the Diamer-III constituency against JUI-F candidate Rehmat Khaliq's 6,990 votes. In the Diamer-I constituency, Dilpazeer won with 6,033 votes over his opponent Waliur Rehman’s 4,639 votes.

The re-polling process began at 8am and concluded by 5pm on July 12th. The polling stations in both constituencies operated smoothly, with no reports of any disturbances or irregularities. Party workers celebrated the victories, with PPP supporters gathering in Darel to celebrate Naseem's win, while Dilpazeer’s supporters also marked their victory.

Earlier, in the GB Assembly elections held on June 7, 2026, Naseem and Dilpazeer had been declared successful. However, on June 19th, Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan suspended the election results after accepting petitions filed by JUI-F candidates alleging rigging at polling stations.

On July 6th, Chief Justice Shamim Khan ordered re-polling at one station in Diamer-I and eight stations in Diamer-III. The GB Election Commission fixed Sunday, July 12th, as the day for conducting these re-polls. The process was conducted peacefully, with a large number of party workers present to support their candidates.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission announced that it would hold a by-election in Skardu-III constituency due to the disqualification of PPP candidate Fida Muhammad Nashad for concealing his assets. The election schedule was set to be issued on Monday (July 17th).

The re-polling results underscored the importance of transparency and fairness in electoral processes, as both candidates managed to secure their seats despite initial challenges.
