PM Shehbaz Launches AI-Based Digitisation Platform for PMO

PM Shehbaz Launches AI-Based Digitisation Platform for PMO

Key Takeaways

  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a new AI-based platform, PMOS, to replace paper-based work in the Prime Minister’s Office.
  • The system aims to modernise governance by recording and tracking directives from issuance through implementation.
  • PMOS is the first government platform in Pakistan to integrate AI as a central component of decision-making.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-based digitisation platform, PMOS, for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Tuesday. The system is designed to replace traditional paper-based working in governance and modernise administrative processes.

During a ceremony attended by key officials including Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja, PM Shehbaz highlighted the transformative potential of this new platform. He directed all relevant authorities to ensure immediate implementation, stating that from now on, paper-based work would be replaced with digital processes.

PMOS is described as a trailblazer in integrating AI for decision-making and implementation monitoring. According to officials, it will facilitate continuous policy calibration by enabling the government to utilise technological resources more effectively. The system records every directive issued by the prime minister along with its complete chain of implementation, serving as both an institutional knowledge base and a permanent record.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Shehbaz praised IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Secretary IT Zarrar Hasham Khan for their efforts in developing and operationalising the system. He urged all ministries and government departments to adopt this platform, emphasizing its potential to significantly improve service delivery and result-oriented governance.

The briefing on PMOS highlighted several key features of the system. It integrates AI to read, classify, and analyse directives, providing a secure technology-driven decision-support platform within a protected IT environment. Unlike conventional tracking systems, PMOS is capable of generating insights through analytics and structured information.

PM Shehbaz also noted that by introducing this platform at the highest level of government, the intention is to embed governance reforms before extending them across the wider administrative structure. The system’s digital repository ensures a comprehensive record of every directive issued by the prime minister and its implementation chain.

The launch of PMOS comes as Pakistan becomes a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (Waico), with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signing the agreement establishing this forum last week.

From today onwards, I will not expect any of you in my office with a file in your hand. Everything will be discussed through this mechanism.
