Pakistan’s Big Bird Foods Secures Major Export Contract

Key Takeaways

  • Big Bird Foods Limited has secured a significant export order from a Gulf-based halal food company.
  • The contract is expected to double the company's current export volumes and add Rs1.2 billion in annual revenues.
  • Pakistan’s Big Bird Foods aims to increase its global market share in the growing halal food industry.

Big Bird Foods Limited, a Pakistani poultry processing unit, has announced a major contract to supply raw chicken and further processed poultry products to a Gulf-based halal food company. The news was shared with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.

According to the notice, this significant export order is expected to nearly double Big Bird Foods' current export volumes, contributing approximately Rs1.2 billion in annual revenues based on current projections.

The company's expansion plans include increasing capacity utilisation and diversifying product offerings to meet growing local and international demand. Big Bird Foods aims to leverage its position in the global halal food market, which is projected to grow from $900 billion annually to over $1.4 trillion by 2034.

Pakistan’s annual meat exports are expected to exceed $500 million by fiscal year 2026, positioning Big Bird Foods as a key player in the country's export sector. The company was established in September 2011 and converted into a public limited company on June 1, 2023.

Big Bird Foods specialises in manufacturing, importing, exporting, supplying, and distributing quality chicken products for both national and international markets. The company’s strategic move to enter the Gulf market is expected to support higher foreign exchange earnings and diversify its revenue base.

The global halal food market presents significant long-term opportunities for established producers with internationally compliant processing facilities. Given Pakistan's strong growth prospects in this sector, Big Bird Foods aims to increase its export footprint and contribute to the country’s economic diversification.
