A 20-year-old carpenter has been arrested in Karachi over the suspected rape and murder of a six-year-old boy. The body was found near Spencer’s Eye Hospital, with multiple bone injuries and signs of sexual violence.
According to police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed, all samples have been collected for sexual violence and chemical analysis. The cause of death is still reserved pending further tests.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza stated that the suspect had confessed during initial interrogation to kidnapping the boy for sexual purposes before allegedly killing him. The body was kept on the rooftop of his house, wrapped in a gunny bag and later thrown into an empty plot from the third floor.
Residents noticed the incident and informed the police, who arrested the suspect after he was beaten by some locals. The suspect is originally from Phool Nagar in Lahore and works as a carpenter. He is a neighbour of the victim’s family, whose only son was also the youngest among four daughters.
The father of the missing boy, a rickshaw driver, reported his son missing on July 6 after he did not return home by 3pm on Monday. The boy had left to visit a shop at around 2:30pm and could not be traced despite extensive searches in the neighbourhood and announcements from local mosques.
Napier police registered an FIR under sections 3 (Trafficking in persons) of the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act of 2018 and 364-A (Kidnapping or abducting a person under the age of fourteen) of the Pakistan Penal Code. The case has been taken notice of by Sindh’s Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar.
