Malir River Bridge to Close for Two Days Due to Construction

Malir River Bridge to Close for Two Days Due to Construction

Key Takeaways

  • Traffic on the Malir River Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 18 and 19.
  • The closure is due to construction work on the under-construction Malir Expressway.
  • Motorists are advised to use designated alternative routes.

Traffic authorities in Karachi have announced a two-day closure of both carriageways of the Malir River Bridge on the National Highway, effective from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 18 and 19. This temporary closure is necessitated by ongoing construction work on the under-construction Malir Expressway.

According to the Karachi Traffic Police, the bridge will be closed within the jurisdiction of the Malir City Traffic Section. The primary objective is to ensure the safe and timely completion of development work without disrupting traffic flow for an extended period.

To mitigate inconvenience, motorists are advised to take a U-turn at the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Expressway and continue towards Malir City. Alternatively, those approaching from Malook Hotel on the National Highway should pass beneath the bridge and proceed towards Steel Mills. The traffic police have urged commuters to use these designated alternative routes.

The Karachi Traffic Police has deployed personnel at the site to assist motorists and maintain smooth traffic flow during the closure period. Commuters are advised to follow traffic instructions and can contact the Traffic Police Helpline (1915) for assistance or tune in to Sindh Police FM Radio 88.6 for the latest traffic updates.

The temporary nature of this closure is intended to facilitate the construction work on the Malir Expressway, which is a significant development project aimed at improving transportation infrastructure in Karachi. The authorities have emphasized that these measures are necessary to ensure the timely completion of the project without causing undue disruption to daily travel routines.

Citizens and commuters are encouraged to plan their routes accordingly and adhere to traffic instructions during this period. The Traffic Police has assured that they will work diligently to minimize any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.
