The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has successfully apprehended a dangerous suspect wanted in 47 criminal cases through the use of its Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the ITS, which utilizes advanced cameras and automated monitoring technology, detected the suspect’s vehicle on the M-5 Motorway near Uch Sharif. Acting swiftly, officers set up a checkpoint but were met with resistance as the suspect attempted to flee.

The pursuit led to the arrest of Arif Hussain, son of Ilahi Bakhsh, who resides in Rajanpur. During the operation, police recovered 10 solar inverters, two lithium batteries, Rs. 136,000 in cash, a pistol, 10 live rounds of ammunition, fake vehicle number plates, and other stolen items.

Further investigation revealed that the arrested suspect was linked to a major robbery case reported in Hasilpur, Bahawalpur, where a sum of Rs. 8.5 million had been stolen. The recovered vehicle and stolen property were also connected to this incident.

The suspect, along with the seized items, has been handed over to Uch Sharif Police Station and the Crime Control Department (CCD) Bahawalpur for further legal proceedings.

Motorway Police spokesperson Syed Imran Ahmed highlighted the effectiveness of ITS in supporting law enforcement through real-time surveillance and vehicle tracking. He stated that this successful arrest demonstrates how modern technology, combined with coordinated policing, can aid in apprehending wanted criminals and recovering stolen property.

The use of ITS has proven to be a significant tool for the Motorway Police in their efforts to combat crime on major highways. This operation underscores the potential of such systems in enhancing public safety and reducing criminal activities.
