Security forces in Pakistan thwarted an attempt by terrorists to cross into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram from Afghanistan, according to security sources.
The attempt was made by terrorists from Nangarhar and Paktia in Afghanistan, identified as belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In response, the Afghan Taliban began firing on Pakistani checkposts, which was unprovoked, the sources said.
Pakistani troops retaliated by targeting multiple checkposts and defensive positions of the Afghan Taliban, resulting in several operatives fleeing the posts.
Security forces were constantly monitoring the border situation and remained prepared to respond to any aggression, the sources added.
Pakistan has seen a resurgence in terrorism since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul in 2021.
A day ago, the information ministry said Pakistan had conducted airstrikes on terrorist sites in the border region with Afghanistan, killing more than 28 terrorists.
The ministry stressed that the strikes were carried out against the hideouts and safe havens of terrorist organizations responsible for recent attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The airstrikes came a few days after a major attack in the old Police Lines in KP’s Kohat claimed 23 lives and injured about 100 others.
Eight terrorists were killed during an overnight clearance operation launched to clear the area.
