Southern California records extreme heatwave with 106F high on Monday

Southern California experienced an unprecedented heatwave, with Santa Ana recording a record high of 106F, or 41.1C, on Monday. Downtown Los Angeles also reached a record high of 104F, equating to 40C, on Monday.
Extreme heat warnings remain in effect along the coast, spanning from Santa Barbara to San Diego through Thursday. The National Weather Service attributed this intense heat to a ridge of high pressure.
Los Angeles recorded a streak of four consecutive days this past week where temperatures reached 100F or higher. Forecasters predict that overnight temperatures in Los Angeles and San Diego will settle in the mid to upper 70s.
Cooler conditions are anticipated for California’s coastal areas, with a cooling trend expected to begin on Thursday. Furthermore, the state's interior regions might see a drop in temperatures on Friday and Saturday.
