The legal action alleges copyright infringement regarding the use of the song “Rockin’ in the Free World” as walkup music during midterm election rallies. Young claims the track was played at a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on 12 October.
The plaintiff seeks an injunction to prevent further public performances of the music for political purposes and demands $10 million in damages. The lawsuit asserts that Donald J. Trump was personally aware that a license was necessary to play the song at his events.
Young states he has not and would not grant the required license for such use. The artist claims the implication that he supports Donald J. Trump has caused damage to his brand and reputation.
In 2020, Young sued Donald J. Trump for President Inc. for copyright infringement of “Rock’” and another song. Donald J. Trump for President Inc. settled that 2020 lawsuit shortly after it was served.
