Proceeds from the book's royalties will be donated to Steadfast L.A., a nonprofit organisation founded by Caruso. Caruso described the work as "a road map for how you get through disrupted or complicated positions, deals, times — whatever the case may be."

The author stated, "I enjoy dealing with complex problems and breaking things apart and putting them back together." During the 2000s, Caruso headed the Los Angeles Police Commission and served as the chair of the USC Board of Trustees.

The businessman also owns The Americana at Brand in Glendale and The Grove in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles. Personal losses include the destruction of three of his family's homes by the Palisades fire.

Caruso expressed criticism regarding how Karen Bass managed the January 2025 fire. Although he announced he would vote for Bass in the 2022 L.A. mayoral election, Caruso did not offer her an official endorsement.

Councilwoman Nithya Raman is currently challenging Bass for office and plans to dismiss LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell if elected.
