The Ministry of Petroleum will brief Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the current gas situation in Pakistan. Officials will review domestic consumer availability, power sector requirements, and the necessity of importing liquefied natural gas (RLNG).
The briefing covers the country's supply and demand position alongside prevailing international gas prices. A winter gas load management plan is being prepared for the period between November 2026 and February 2027.
Locally produced gas will be prioritised for domestic consumers under the proposal. Household supplies will be concentrated during peak cooking hours.
RLNG would be reserved for industry and power generation. Demand on the SNGPL network is expected to rise from approximately 550 million cubic feet per day to 1,100 mmcfd.
SSGC demand could increase from 300 mmcfd to 500 mmcfd. The Petroleum Division estimates that 24 LNG cargoes may be needed to satisfy winter requirements.
Nine of these LNG cargoes are estimated for power generation, while 15 are intended for domestic consumers. Two of the cargoes for domestic use serve as contingency supplies.
The winter gas load management plan is still awaiting official approval.
