French player Arthur Gea stunned US Open finalist Ben Shelton in the third round of the Shanghai Masters, marking the biggest upset of the tournament so far. Gea, ranked 56th in the world, defeated Shelton 7-6(7/5), 7-6(7/3) in a match that lasted over two hours.

Top seed Alexander Zverev, the third seed in the tournament, also advanced to the last 16 after a tough three-set battle against France’s Quentin Halys. Zverev, who plays aggressively and serves powerfully, managed to win 6-4, 6-7(8/10), 6-3, despite moving uncomfortably at the end of the match.

Zverev, who has won two Grand Slams this year, said, 'He plays unbelievably aggressively and serves incredibly,' referring to Halys. Zverev faces Kazakhstan’s 19th seed Alexander Bublik in the next round.

The 21-year-old Zverev, who has been selective with his tournament choices, reflected on his career, saying, 'This year I have been picking my tournaments and places where I want to peak; I did not do that early in my career. It paid off; I won two Grand Slams and reached the Wimbledon final.'

Despite his frustration, Zverev managed to secure the first set against Halys in just 38 minutes. The second set was more competitive, with Zverev narrowly avoiding a tie-break. However, he lost a match point and eventually had to go to a tie-break, which he won. The third set was decisive, with Zverev breaking for 2-0 and then maintaining his serve to secure the victory.

Gea will face 13th seed Jakub Mensik of the Czech Republic in the next round, while Zverev will take on Alexander Bublik. Both players are expected to face tough challenges as they progress in the tournament.

The Shanghai Masters continues with more exciting matches to come, as players vie for a place in the final stages of the tournament.
