Key Takeaways

  • China has issued its third batch of export quotas for low-sulfur marine fuel oil for 2026.
  • The total quota for 2026 now stands at just over 14 million tons.
  • CNPC received 800,000 tons, CNOOC received 230,000 tons, and Sinochem received 40,000 tons.

China has issued its third batch of export quotas for low-sulfur marine fuel oil for 2026, totalling 1.07 million metric tons, according to trade sources and a consultancy.

This brings the total marine fuel export quota volumes for 2026 to just over 14 million tons, marking an increase from last year’s quota volumes, which were slightly shy of 14 million tons.

CNPC received 800,000 tons in the latest batch, while CNOOC received 230,000 tons, according to two trade sources familiar with the matter.

The remaining 40,000 tons went to Sinochem, as reported by consultancy Oilchem.

The commerce ministry did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment via fax.

These export quotas are crucial for the shipping industry, as low-sulfur marine fuel oil is essential for reducing emissions and meeting international environmental standards.

The increased quota volume suggests a growing demand for low-sulfur marine fuel oil, which is expected to benefit companies involved in the production and export of such fuels.

Traders and industry experts are closely monitoring these developments, as they can significantly impact the global shipping and fuel markets.
