Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has given the green light to the construction of a state-of-the-art Special Security Unit (SSU) headquarters and security training academy in Chowkandi, valued at Rs 9.497 billion.
The project, approved during a meeting on the comprehensive police security complex, will see the first phase of the SSU Academy launched during the current financial year.
According to officials, the academy will be constructed on approximately 29.43 acres, with Rs 4.483 billion allocated for the initial phase.
The proposed facility is designed to accommodate more than 3,000 male and 300 female personnel, including a range of training facilities such as firing ranges, a tactical training complex, simulation rooms, and a SWAT obstacle course.
Additional amenities include academic, administrative, and residential blocks, auditoriums, research and development facilities, libraries, computer laboratories, a swimming pool, gymnasium, sports complex, and a medical centre.
The project also includes a CCTV command centre, watchtowers, and blast-resistant security walls, with dining halls capable of seating 1,000 people at a time.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized the importance of modern, professional, and technology-equipped police forces in addressing future security challenges and ensuring citizen safety.
He described the project as a significant investment in Sindh’s long-term security system and directed the Finance and Planning departments to complete the technical and financial assessment promptly.
