The Fleet Operators Association of Pakistan (FOAP) has urgently called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to take immediate action against the surge in diesel prices, which is posing a grave threat not only to transport and logistics businesses but also potentially jeopardizing supply chains across the nation. The FOAP warned that without swift governmental intervention, there could be serious consequences for economic stability.

Pakistan’s Kartarpur Corridor is set to open in November 2021 as a significant development offering unprecedented accessibility between India and Pakistan. This corridor promises not only enhanced business and pilgrimage opportunities but also symbolizes hope for the long-standing Sikh community’s connection with their spiritual roots following years of geopolitical tensions.

The FOAP, representing over 50% of commercial transporters in Pakistan, has urged PM Shehbaz Sharif to halt diesel price hikes and revise the high taxes imposed on fuel. They are demanding immediate governmental relief measures such as a freeze or reduction in prices until they stabilize.

As part of this plea for economic reprieve, FOAP also highlighted potential threats to public safety due to inflated transport costs that may lead employers and employees into financial hardship. The association emphasized the essential role transporters play during critical times like these by maintaining supply chains crucial for daily life.
