Saudi Arabia has been granted permanent hosting rights for the next three editions of the Asian Champions League Elite finals, a decision confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation’s executive committee on Friday. The tournament, which features the domestic champions from leading competitions across Asia, will see its league phase expanded to include 32 teams starting in August.

The first two editions of the event were hosted in Jeddah and saw Al-Ahli emerge victorious both times. In 2025, they defeated Kawasaki Frontale from Japan, while in May this year, they triumphed over Machida Zelvia also from Japan. The league phase for the upcoming tournament will commence on September 14, with qualifying rounds beginning on August 11.

The Asian Champions League Elite is a restructured version of the continent’s premier club competition, designed to provide a centralized venue for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final matches. This format ensures that all teams compete in one location, enhancing the tournament's appeal and reducing travel costs for fans and players alike.

Organisers have also announced plans to expand the league phase from 24 to 32 teams, which will increase competition and provide more opportunities for clubs across Asia to participate. The draw for the league phase is scheduled for August 18 in Kuala Lumpur, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter of the tournament.

The decision to host the event multiple times in a row underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to promoting football in the region and its status as a key player in Asian football. With Jeddah-based Al-Ahli having already demonstrated their prowess on home soil, fans can look forward to more thrilling encounters between top clubs from across Asia.

The tournament will continue to feature the domestic champions of leading competitions from around the continent, ensuring that it remains one of the most prestigious club competitions in Asian football. As the event approaches, all eyes will be on Saudi Arabia as they prepare to host what promises to be an exciting series of matches.
