Key Takeaways

  • The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain with strong winds and thunderstorms in several parts of the country.
  • Forecasted areas include Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan.
  • Heavy rainfall may trigger flash flooding in local streams and low-lying areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms across several parts of Pakistan. According to the latest weather advisory, these conditions are expected over the next four to six hours.

In Punjab, regions including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, and Bahawalnagar are among those affected. Similar weather conditions are also expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, Waziristan, Kalam, Karak, Tank, Swat, Nowshera, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Balochistan, Quetta, Zhob, Musakhel, Barkhan, and adjoining areas are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms. The PMD has also warned that heavy rainfall may occur at isolated locations in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan during the forecast period.

The Met Office has advised the public to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather advisories. This warning is particularly important as heavy rainfall could trigger flash flooding in local streams and low-lying areas, posing a risk to communities and infrastructure.

The PMD’s advisory was issued at 3:40 PM PST on July 21, 2026, emphasizing the need for residents and authorities to be prepared. The department has urged people to avoid low-lying areas and stay informed about potential hazards.

While the forecast is specific in its coverage of affected regions, it also highlights the unpredictability of isolated heavy rainfall events that could lead to localized flooding. This underscores the importance of continuous monitoring and preparation by both individuals and local authorities.
