KMC Launches Midwifery Training Program for Karachi Residents

Key Takeaways

  • Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has opened admissions for a Community Midwifery Training Course.
  • The deadline for applications is August 10, 2026, with written tests and interviews scheduled later that month.
  • Five affiliated institutions will offer the training program.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has initiated a new midwifery training program aimed at young women in Karachi. This initiative seeks to enhance maternal and community healthcare through the recruitment of qualified midwives.

Applicants can submit their applications from now until August 10, 2026, by visiting the principals' offices of five affiliated institutions: KMC Midwifery School in New Karachi, Sartaj Bano School of Midwifery in Soldier Bazaar, Khadijatul Kubra School of Midwifery in Pak Colony, Gizri Maternity Home and School of Midwifery on Gizri Road, and Sobhraj Maternity Hospital Midwifery School in Urdu Bazaar.

The KMC has outlined specific eligibility criteria for prospective students. Applicants must possess a Matriculation certificate with at least 40 per cent marks, preferably including Science, and be between the ages of 15 and 35. Additionally, candidates need to present a valid Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) and prove their Karachi domicile in Sindh.

The written test for selected applicants will take place on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 am at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Successful candidates will then undergo interviews on August 20, 2026, also at the same venue and time. The KMC has emphasized that this program provides an opportunity to build a rewarding career while contributing significantly to maternal and child healthcare.

KMC officials have described the initiative as a vital step towards improving healthcare services in Karachi. By training more midwives, the corporation aims to address gaps in community healthcare and ensure better outcomes for expectant mothers and their children.

The program is expected to benefit both individual participants and the broader community by increasing access to skilled midwifery care. With clinical attachments at key hospitals such as Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, and Gizri Maternity Hospital, trainees will gain practical experience in a variety of settings.

For those interested in pursuing this career path, the KMC has provided clear instructions on how to apply and what is required. The corporation encourages young women across Karachi to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute positively to their community through maternal and child healthcare.
