Key Takeaways

  • The Pakistan Navy and PMSA rescued all 20 crew members from a sinking cargo dhow east of Ormara.
  • The vessel was en route from Karachi to the Gulf of Oman when it experienced severe flooding.
  • Rapid response by naval units ensured safe recovery and medical care for the rescued crew.

In a coordinated effort, the Pakistan Navy and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) successfully rescued all 20 crew members from a sinking cargo dhow operating east of Ormara. The incident occurred while the vessel was en route from Karachi to the Gulf of Oman.

According to a statement released by the Pakistan Navy, the cargo dhow encountered severe flooding due to deteriorating weather conditions at sea, placing both the vessel and its crew in immediate danger. Upon receiving a distress call, the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) promptly coordinated with the Navy to initiate an urgent search and rescue operation.

The Pakistan Navy swiftly mobilised surface and air assets for the mission. The warship PNS HUNAIN was immediately diverted to the scene to undertake the rescue operation, while a Sea King helicopter was tasked to provide critical aerial surveillance and extraction support. These rapid responses ensured that all 20 crew members were safely recovered from the distressed vessel.

Following their recovery, the rescued crew members are receiving necessary medical care and attention. The swift and professional execution by Pakistan Navy units highlights the effectiveness of the country's maritime security apparatus in handling such critical situations.

This rescue operation underscores the importance of coordinated efforts between various maritime agencies to ensure the safety of seafarers and vessels operating in Pakistani waters. It also demonstrates the readiness and capability of the Pakistan Navy to respond swiftly to emergencies at sea.
